Community Involvement

Dr Clarke has been a leading voice in educating the Black community about protecting themselves from the ravages of COVID 19. She has logged countless hours getting the message out for how our community can protect itself with public health measures including vaccination.

COVID-19 Work

 

Frustrated by the onslaught of misinformation surrounding Covid-19, Dr. Clarke has taken a multimedia approach to mitigate the effects of the pandemic, especially among African-Americans. Because of her interactive community presence, she is aware of and able to counteract, COVID disinformation in real time and has been on the front lines by:


  • Co-founding the Black Coalition Against COVID 19, a consortium of community leaders drawn from labor, education, the faith community, medicine, public health, media and the arts. BCAC creates customized health messages to various demographics and advocates for policies at the city, state and national to create equity in the response to the COVID 19 pandemic

  • Founding VaxnowGA -  a social media campaign to educate rural Georgians about COVID 19 vaccination

  • Being Medical Advisor to the Leadership Council for Health Communities, a consortium of 70 faith institutions in DC, implementing a Virtual Health Ministry, a care coordination program sharing critical COVID 19 education and resources, and connecting citizens to pastors, Howard University social workers and medical professionals. 

  • Speaking at over 200 forums to faith-based and civic organizations, employee groups and professional athletes

  • Serving as an appointee to the DC Dept of Health Scientific Advisory Committee for the Development and Implementation of a Safe, Effective, and Equitable COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Program 

  • Being quoted in numerous news articles, including USAToday, the WaPo, and The Root as well as in of the first national articles to warn about the disproportionate effects of COVID 19 among communities of color (USA Today March 30, 2020)

  • Her articles about vulnerable communities and COVID 19, have been published by HIMMS, 3M, Medium.com and BlackAmericaWeb.com.
